Julia Hunt Nielsen performs Francis Poulenc’s one-woman lyric tragedy for soprano and piano La dame de Monte Carlo. In a story with a kaleidoscope of emotions, a woman, betrayed by her lovers and luck – finds refuge in the elation of gambling.

Poulenc composed La dame de Monte Carlo in 1961 based on a poem by Jean Cocteau.

Julia made her Island City Opera debut in our 2015 production of La Boheme as Musetta, Marcello’s sometime lover and tormentor.

Praised by Backstage Magazine for “an instrument many singers wish they had, both sensual and alluring”, Julia has appeared in leading roles with Festival Opera, Opera San Luis Obispo, Eugene Opera, Oakland Lyric Opera, Pocket Opera, Stockton Opera, Sonoma City Opera, Open Opera and the San Francisco Opera Guild.

A San Francisco native, Ms. Nielsen made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall winning the Center for Contemporary Opera’s international competition.
