Dear Opera Lover,

This March, we will bring Ethel Smyth’s fabulous but rarely performed opera, The Wreckers, to the Elks Ballroom stage, and we need your help to make it happen! The Wreckers is a vibrant and exciting opera that tells the tale of pious villagers luring sailing ships onto the rocks for plunder and the brave couple who try to stop them only to meet their doom.

Excellent singers, including the incomparable tenor Alex Boyer, mezzo-soprano Katja Heuzeroth, and bass-baritone Bojan Knezevic, a full orchestra led by Jonathan Khuner, creative costume and set design, and brilliant lighting and technical effects will assure that this will be an incredible production. We know you will be thrilled and moved when you experience this music live.

Our 2019-2020 season, which kicked off with a summer garden party fundraiser hosted by Christopher Seiwald, and Opera in the Park in September, ends with our main production, The Wreckers. To bring this amazing work to you requires ongoing fundraising.

And we have exciting news: two of our top donors have generously agreed to match donations up to a total of $20,000 received between now and December 31, 2019. That means that the impact of your donation will be doubled! You may donate online, by phone (510.337.1354) or by mail to to Island City Opera, PO Box 1144 Alameda CA 94501.

Please tell your friends and family to come aboard for this exciting opera adventure! Performance dates are March 20, 22, 26, and 28, 2020. You may purchase tickets now via www.islandcityopera.org or call the Box Office at 510-337-1354.

With your partnership, we are keeping the true spirit of the arts alive by mounting productions that make your heart sing and strengthen the bonds of our community.

With very best wishes,

Eileen Meredith
